A low-fat diet supplemented with an Omega-3 rich fish oil supplement may come associated with a reduced risk of prostate cancer recurrence. The finding emerges from a study published in ‘Cancer Prevention Research,’ which confirms the anti-inflammatory power of Omega-3s.

The researchers, building on previous work conducted in 2011 on a group of men with prostate cancer, found a protective effect against cancer recurrence among sufferers who increased Omega-3 consumption. The benefit was measured in comparison with a Western eating style with too much fat.

Dietary Omega-3 supplementation has been associated with low levels of pro-inflammatory (carcinogenesis-promoting) substances in the blood and reduced cell progression (a method of predicting tumor aggravation).
