Sirt Diet is the name given to a dietary regimen rich in a wide variety of plant-based health foods. So-called sirt foods are characterized by a high polyphenol content and are believed to be helpful in the production of certain proteins (sirtuins), which are indicated as being able to promote the maintenance of muscle mass.
The promotion of the Sirt diet, which is very dynamic particularly by word of mouth on social networks, has boosted sales of certain foods, which have now become part of Italians’ eating habits even when foreign to the Mediterranean tradition.
According to the 2016 Coop report, for example, in just one year, sales in the large-scale retail trade of plants traditionally consumed in the East rose astonishingly. In the case of ginger and turmeric, it increased by 141% and 93%, respectively. Exceptional increases were also recorded in the demand for foods typical of the Mediterranean diet: demand for black grapes grew by 88 percent, celery and oil seeds by 35 percent, and arugula rose by more than 192 percent.
