Eating dried fruits has health benefits. The thesis, which emerged in the early 1990s, has just been confirmed by a study published in the ‘New England Journal of Medicine. Nut consumption, researchers say, has been associated with a reduced risk of cardiovascular disease and type 2 diabetes.
The conclusion is the result of observing the quality of life of 119,000 people over 30 years. Assessing dietary habits and health status, scholars observed greater longevity among those who habitually enriched their diets with nuts, such as hazelnuts, almonds, walnuts, pine nuts, cashews, and pistachios.
The advantage is significant. At the end of the survey (1980-2010), those who usually consumed nuts 7 or more times a week enjoyed a 20% decrease in mortality, while those who consumed nuts less than once every 7 days still benefited, with an 11% higher survival rate, compared with subjects who did not eat nuts at all.
Dried fruits high in calories and fatI, true, but healthy. As long as you consume moderate amounts, such as as snacks, and avoid versions coated with salt or drizzled with vegetable oil.
