The French app Yuka crowns eight ice creams as the best available in Italy, from a nutritional and health point of view.
1) Yuka, the app that helps consumers choose ‘healthy’ foods and cosmetics
Yuka is an app available both in a free version – to obtain a summary judgment on the quality of foods but also of cosmetics by simply scanning their barcodes – and in ‘premium’ version, to access these ratings even remotely, on hundreds of thousands of products. (1)
Scores attributed by Yuka to food products derive from an objective evaluation, based on three criteria:
- nutritional profile of foods, calculated with the Nutriscore LINK system (60% of the score)
- possible risks associated with food additives present in individual products, in light of the scientific literature (30% of the score)
- organic certification (10% of the score).
The cosmetics are instead evaluated based on the presence of substances potentially harmful to health, always on the basis of scientific studies and the authorities responsible for this.
2) The best eight ice creams in Italy according to Yuka
The best ice creams according to Yuka are those with less sugar and without additives that are risky for health. These two elements in fact have a substantial impact on the nutritional quality of ice creams and the combination of pleasure and health, as noted in our market investigations. (2,3,4)
Here is Yuka’s selection, complemented by our research into the ingredient list, nutritional declaration and (indicative) price.
3) Yuka, an independent chart
Yuka’s team reminds us that their ranking of the best ice creams in Italy, like all scores given to the generality of products, is independent of brands.
The independence and objectivity of the evaluations – for Yuka, as for GIFT (Great Italian Food Trade) – are in fact guaranteed by the absence of advertising.
