Tightened vigilance on American “fat burners”

Zero tolerance for “Made in USA” supplements that promise to burn fat but attack the health of athletes. The UK’s “Food Standards Agency” (FSA) has raised the alarm after discovering an illegal drug in a “fat burner” manufactured in California by “iForce Nutrition.”

The Dutch Food and Consumer Products Safety Authority (NVWA) has in turn ordered Dexaprine, an alleged “fat burner” that has already caused the hospitalization of a dozen consumers, including for serious heart problems, to be removed from online sales.

The “European Specialist Sports Nutrition Alliance” (ESSNA) — an association representing European manufacturers of sports foods — expresses satisfaction with the rigorous vigilance of the British and Dutch authorities.
