I campioni sono stati raccolti in sei punti vendita di Catania (3 fruttivendoli, un supermercato e due negozi a km zero), in altrettante zone della citt\u00e0.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Dopo avere lavato<\/strong>\u00a0frutta e verdura, i ricercatori hanno sbucciato e centrifugato i singoli campioni. Mediante una innovativa tecnica (brevettata dal laboratorio etneo, diretto dalla professoressa Margherita Ferrante) hanno infine misurato dimensioni e quantit\u00e0 delle microplastiche contenute nell&#8217;alimento.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"I_risultati\"><\/span>I risultati<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><strong>Gli esami<\/strong>\u00a0hanno rilevato la presenza di microplastiche di misure comprese tra un minimo di 1,51 \u03bcm (nelle carote) a 2,52\u00a0\u03bcm (nelle lattughe). Una forma che penetra facilmente nelle cellule di semi, radici, foglie e frutti. (2)<\/p>\n<p><strong>La contaminazione<\/strong>, espressa in particelle per grammo (ppg) di vegetale, ammonta mediamente a 223mila ppg (52.600-307.750) nella frutta e a 97.800 ppg (72.175-130.500) nella verdura.<\/p>\n<p><strong>I livelli pi\u00f9 alti<\/strong> di microplastiche\u00a0nei frutti vanno attribuiti a diversi fattori, secondo i ricercatori. L&#8217;elevatissima\u00a0vascolarizzazione della polpa del frutto, le maggiori dimensioni e complessit\u00e0 dell&#8217;apparato radicale. L&#8217;et\u00e0 dell&#8217;albero pu\u00f2 inoltre favorire accumuli a cui le verdure sono meno esposte, avendo\u00a0un ciclo di vita pi\u00f9 breve.<\/p>\n<p><strong>La carota<\/strong>\u00a0(il cui ciclo di sviluppo \u00e8 di 60\u2013 75 giorni) \u00e8 risultata essere l&#8217;ortaggio pi\u00f9 contaminato. Presumibilmente a causa dei piccoli peli attorno alla sua radice centrale, che possono favorire l&#8217;accesso alle microplastiche di dimensioni pi\u00f9 piccole.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"La_dose_giornaliera_di_microplastiche\"><\/span>La dose giornaliera di microplastiche<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><strong>Lo studio\u00a0<\/strong>dell&#8217;Universit\u00e0 di Catania ha inoltre incrociato i livelli di contaminazione da microplastiche con le\u00a0<em>Estimated Daily Intakes<\/em>\u00a0(Assunzioni giornaliere stimate) di frutta e verdura per adulti e bambini. L\u2019esposizione a queste come ad altre sostanze di potenziale tossicit\u00e0 si misura infatti in relazione al peso corporeo, che nei pi\u00f9 piccoli \u00e8 sostanzialmente inferiore.<\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8216;<\/strong><em><strong>Nonostante l&#8217;abbondante presenza di microplastiche<\/strong> nelle verdure indagate sia di notevole preoccupazione, l&#8217;esposizione attraverso l&#8217;ingestione di questi alimenti \u00e8 inferiore al consumo di acqua minerale in bottiglia di PET&#8217;<\/em>, commentano i ricercatori.
