Palm oil-free milk powder? Here is a list of the brands on sale in Italy, distinguished between infant formula and follow-on milk. Companies in the list below are distinguished by their use of vegetable oil blends such as extra virgin olive, sunflower, canola, or coconut.
Palm oil, which carries carcinogenic substances, is always absent from the selection in milk for infants, as attested by EFSA, the European Food Safety Authority, which stated in its May 3, 2016 opinion, “The carcinogenic and genotoxic substances present in palm oil due to industrial refining processes are indeed dangerous. The amounts of these contaminants, in the tropical fat, are up to ten times higher than in other vegetable oils.”
In addition to choosing palm oil-free milk powder, it is necessary to convince the many industries that have not yet done so to change recipes. By signing the petition launched on change.org by Great Italian Food Trade and Il Fatto Alimentare.
