A decalogue recalling principles for sustainable turnaround in the wine sector
Producing sustainable wine is the new challenge for Italian winemakers. A handful of virtuous companies have already learned the principles, so much so that they have received awards. For others very useful may be the Gavi Charter for Responsible Wine. The document is a decalogue for producing good and sustainable wine. It was drawn up by the Consorzio Tutela del Gavi together with 100 Made in Italy wine protagonists, including producers, industry representatives and communication organizations.
10 points for sustainable wine
The Responsible Wine Charter – presented at the workshop
Gavi Workshop 2018
– lists in 10 points the actions needed to qualify quality wines beyond the albeit important certifications of origin (Doc, Docg and Igp), organic farming (or biodynamic), vegan, sulfite-free. In fact, it contemplates values hitherto unrelated to the cited certifications such as respect for workers’ rights, mutual respect and promotion of culture. Here they are in detail
– espouse the right values,
– Protecting the land,
– Safeguarding water,
– Countering climate change,
– Commit to sustainability,
– Protecting biodiversity,
– Believing in people,
– Saving in natural resources,
– Promote culture and the arts,
– Creating wealth for the local area.
Exemplary enterprises

green
. Caprai was honored by the Consorzio Tutela del Gavi with the award The Good Italy for the implementation of the protocol The New Green Revolution.
